Biography

Born in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) 11 May 1956, Antonio Polito had a classical education and completed his studies in Law at the University of Naples.
It was also in Naples that he began his journalistic career in May 1975, in the Naples office of "L'Unità". He was later made responsible for the Naples office. In 1982 he left Naples and was made responsible for the Emilia Romagna regional supplement of "L'Unità". He was then posted to Rome to join the newspaper’s central office.

In May 1988 Eugenio Scalfari appointed him deputy editor-in-chief of "La Repubblica", working in the newspaper’s central office. He was then promoted to editor-in-chief and then deputy editor in November 1994. In January 1996 he was made responsible for the paper’s on-line edition, www.repubblica.it. Since January he has been in London as La Repubblica’s British correspondent.
