        Biography
Riccardo Barenghi was born in Rome, 13 March 1957. He graduated in
classical liceo in 1976. In 1978 he worked for six months as a
researcher in RAI Corporation in New York. Returning to Rome, he began
his career as a journalist in1980, at the age of 23, in Il
Manifesto, where he still works. He initially specialised in
national news, and later union news and politics. He was head of
national news for three years, editor-in-chief for four years, and was
then appointed deputy-editor, a post he held until March 1998. In 1985
he wrote "Ventiquattro marzo", (Datanews) with Sandro
Medici. The book dealt with the conflict between the government and the
unions over the scala mobile (the sliding scale of index-linked annual
pay rises) during the Bettino Craxi administration. He has twice
presented RAI's radio current affairs magazine Prima pagina as well as
        several night-time broadcasts.
