Biography
Monika Fleischmann is a media artist and head of computer art activities at GMD's
Institute for Media Communication. In 1988 she was one of the founder members of Art+Com
in Berlin, a research institute for computer assisted media research. Her multidiscipline
background (fashion design, art and drama, computergraphics) have made her an expert in
the world of art, computer science and media technology. Her works deal with identity and
perception, the research projects are based on interface design, and new forms of
communication.
Her main interest is bringing poetry and imagination into media artworks. In 1992 she
was awarded the Golden Nica for "Home of the Brain" at Ars Electronica in Linz.
The "Liquid Views" installation was chosen for Siggraph's Machine Culture 1993
and the ARC Media Festival in Los Angeles, 1994. In 1993 she was nominated for the Unesco
Award. Her work with her partner Wolfgang Strauss (media-architect) and computer
scientists like Christian Bohn (GMD) and Dirk Luesebrink (Art+Com) is exhibited worldwide.
She is a member of Goethe institute's advisory board for MEDIA and is involved in
program committees on international conferences like Cyberconf Madrid 96, Eurographics
'96, Ciber@rt Valencia 96. She curates the Art & Multimedia Session of ACM Multimedia
'96 in Boston: "Storytelling after Cinema". In 1994 she initiatedthe Cyberstar
competition on interactive concepts and visions together with WDR and with the help of
German Telekom. |
