Biography
Eric Benhamou is chairman of the board, president and CEO of 3Com
Corporation, becoming CEO in September 1990. Benhamou previously held senior management
positions in engineering, operations and management.Benhamou co-founded Bridge
Communications, an early pioneer in the area of connecting terminals to host mainframes,
in 1981, and was vice-president of engineering until the company's merger with 3Com in
1987. He previously spent four years at Zilog Inc., serving as project manager, software
engineering manager, and design engineer.
Benhamou is the author of several papers on global data networking and
local Area networking technology. In 1993 he wrote an editorial for the New York Times
entitled, "Let's Get Going on a Data Highway"In 1990, Communications Week named
him an industry visionary for their report on the 25 most influential people in business.
In 1992 he received the President's Environment and Conservation Challenge Award, the
United States' highest environmental award. In 1994, 3Com entered the Fortune 500, with
1993 sales of $617 million. |

Benhamou chairs the American Electronics Association's National Information
Infrastructure (NII) Task Force, representing 3,000 member companies in the fastest
growing segments of the American high-technology industry. Since 1993, he has served on
the Board of Directors of Smart Valley. He is also on the Board of Directors of Cypress
Semiconductor, Legato, and Santa Clara University's School of Business.Benhamou holds a
masters degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and a Diplome
d'Ingenieur from Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Arts et Metiers, Paris. |
