Biography

Scott Winkler graduated in electrical engineering and information science from George Washington University. Vice president and research director of Gartner Group, he brought 18 years of computer industry experience to the company. Before joining Gartner Group he was director of systems marketing at Sequent Computer Systems, where he was responsible for communications, operating systems, systems software, and hardware technology. Previously he held a variety of management positions in sales and marketing at IBM, including responsibilities for mainframes, communications, personal computers, and UNIX systems. Winkler is responsible for Gartner Group's research in platforms and operating systems.
