Biography
Born in 1941 in Uzerche in France, Jean Pierre Teyssier studied at the Ecole National
de Administration in 1967. Having begun his career as a diplomat, he became press officer
to Prime Minister Jacques Chaban-Delmas, and then to Georges Pompidou. During the last
twenty years he has been concerned with broadcasting and communication in both the public
and private sectors.
From 1975 to 1980 he worked in television technology at Télédiffusion de France
as head of the subsidiary SOFRATEV. He then moved into programming and, as
Secretary General of TF1, into management. In 1983 he was appointed Head of Production of
C.L.T. (RTL), producing TV series and films for theatrical release.
Appointed head of press and communications by Edourd Balladur in 1986, he was
President- Director General of France-Loto (now Française des Jeux) from
1987 to 1989. In 1989 he was appointed General Director of Communications for the City of
Paris, and in 1991 became International Vice President of Euro-RSCG, with the task
of creating a network of advertising agencies in Eastern Europe.
In 1994 Jean Pierre Teyssier was nominated President of INA (Institut National
de lAudiovisuel), a mandate which the Council of Ministers renewed until 1999. The INA
launched a development plan entitled INA 2000. Aimed at transforming the
institute into a point of reference at the service of audiovisual professionals, it led to
wide-ranging reorganisation, the launching of new activities and the use of new digital
technologies. |

INA is now the first audiovisual archive on the Internet,
and in the coming years will, with the Inathéque de France, open the first multimedia
consultation centre for radio and television programmes.
Teyssier is also president of URTI (Université Radio
Télévision Internationale), and a director of AFP, Sept-ARTE and TV5.
He is also the editor of the soon to be published Les années
numériques: la télévision change de siècle, (Cherche Midi). |
