Biography

Gualtiero Peirce was born in Naples in 1960. A television critic, he began his career at Paese Sera before moving to L’Indipendente. In 1987 he made a four-part documentary on post-war Naples for RAI, the Italian public broadcasting service, and in 1989 he worked with Pinotto Fava on the radio programme Audiobox. He began writing for the entertainment pages of “La Repubblica” in 1993 and the following year he took over the paper’s TV column “E’ tutto da vedere” from Beniamino Placido. He is known for his ruthlessness in pointing out the incongruities of TV programmes, and his veiled irony in commenting on the antics of the heroes of the small screen. (from “Enciclopedia della TV” by Aldo Grasso). He created and co-ordinates the Internet pages of “La Repubblica”.
