Biography

Giuseppe De Rita graduated in law in 1954, and worked for the Association for the Development of Southern Italy (SVIMEZ) from 1955 to 1963, with responsibility for the sociology department from 1958 to 1963. From 1964 to 1974 he was Managing Director of CENSIS (Centro Studi Investimenti Sociali) and since 1974 he has been Secretary General of the CENSIS Foundation. He has also been President of the Consiglio Nazionale dell'Economia e del Lavoro (CNEL) since May 1989 and has been President of the publishing house Le Monnier since 1995. Giuseppe De Rita is also a prolific journalist as well as rapporteur for major symposia and debates on the conditions and the development of Italian society.
