Biography
Co-director General of STET Italia - a financial society which
controls all telecommunications activities - Umberto de Julio
graduated in electronic engineering from the University of Rome. After
working on research at the Ugo Bordoni Foundation, in 1972 he joined
SIP where he held various positions including:
in 1985 Head of the Lombardy network; in 1986 Head of the whole SIP
network; with the creation of TELECOM ITALIA in 1994, became head of
the Network Division. In February 1995 he joined STET as Co-director
General with responsibility for planning and strategic control,
innovation and technological development and the development of new
services, with particular reference to multimedia.
He is a member of the board of directors of TELECOM Italia, TELECOM
Italia Mobile, CSELT (Telecommunications Research and Laboratory
Centre) and STET International.
Much of his activity is dedicated to the development of new systems,
networks and telecommunications, including in the field of
international organisations involved in the study of
telecommunications legislation (CCITT, CEPT, ecc.).
He is currently president of the General Assembly of EURESCOM (European
Institute for Telecommunications Research and Strategic Studies), as
well as general vice-president of AEI (Italian Electro-technical and
Electronic Association) and a member of FITCE and the IEEE.
He is author of numerous publications in reviews and national and
international congresses. |
