Biography

Giovanni Cesareo was born in Palermo in 1926. In the immediate post-was era he worked in the theatre as author and critic and was one of the founders of the CUT in Rome. He then became city editor at "L'Unitą" and later a correspondent at "Noi Donne" and "Vie Nuove". In the 60's and 70's he worked as a television critic at "L'Unitą", "Sette Giorni", and "Sipario" and carried out research into mass communications, working with groups and members of the general public. In 1974 he and Giulio A. Maccacaro founded a new series of "Sapere". From 1978 to 1982 he was editor of the new series of "Ikon", the review of the Istituto Gemelli of Milan. In 1983 he founded and edited the review "Se, Scienza Esperienza", which ceased publication at the beginning of 1988. He lectures in the theory and practice of mass communication and advertising communication techniques at the Milan Polytechnic. He is a member of the "World Future Society" and is part of the political economy of the media section of IAMCR. He is one of the founders of the research centre "I chierici di San Salvador" of Telecom Italia.
