Biography
An expert in strategic planning, Clement Bezold (cbezold@altfutures.com) is president of the IAF
(Institute for Alternative Studies), founded in 1977, and of its subsidiary, the AFA
(Alternative Futures Associates).
After studying international affairs at Georgetown Universitys School of Foreign
Service, Bezold was awarded a research doctorate in political science from the University
of Florida.
He has taught as the University of Florida, Antioch University and Law School,
and the American University.
He has been Assistant Director of the Center for Governmental Responsibility, and
consultant of the Rockefeller Commission on Critical Choices for Americans. As a
consultant he has developed forecasting techniques, applying the methods of strategic
planning futures research, in both the public and private sectors.
He is often called to speak on the future to government bodies, companies, commercial
associations, voluntary organisations, educational and health groups.
Bezold is also on the editorial board of Futures Research Quarterly, and has
published numerous articles. He has contributed to The Futurist, of which he is
government editor, Business and Health, Modern Healthcare, Quality Progress, Healthcare
Forum Journal, Pharmaceutical Executive, National Journal. |

He is the author and editor of several books, including Horizons 2013-Longer,
Better Life Without Cancer (with the American Cancer Society); Future
Care: responding to the Demand for Change; Anticipatory Democracy; Health Care Information
Standards and technologies; Pharmaceuticals in the Year 2000; Nursing in the 21st
Century; Judging the Future: Alternative Futures and the Legal System; The Information
Millennium: Alternative Futures; The Future of Health in Latin America: the Prospects for
Achieving Health For All. The Future of Work and Health, written with Rick
Carlson and Jonathan Peck, was named by American Health as one of the best books
