Biography

Giuliano Berretta, an Italian, is the Commercial Director of Eutelsat, the organisation founded by a consortium of European public and private telecommunications operators which now boasts around 45 members. Eutelsat operates fixed and mobile communications satellites in Europe. Berretta joined Eutelsat as commercial director in September 1990. He is responsible for the commercial aspects of the organisation, including market information, commercial development and relations with the public and the media.

Before joining Eutelsat, Berretta was with the European Space Agency (ESA), where in 1987 he was head of the mission and co-ordination office (MPCO) in ESA's telecommunication direction. He participated in the planning of ESA's telecommunications programme in Paris in 1979 and in ESA's Technical Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands in 1971. Previously he had worked for many years in Italian industry in the field of radio links and military and civilian television transmissions.
