Biography

Francesco Antinucci directs the section of Cognitive Processes and New Technologies at the Psychology Institute of the CNR. For more than thirty years he has been developing research on language and thought, their development in children, and their evolution in human beings.

He has taught at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome and at the University of California at Berkeley and the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) of Xerox.

In the 80's he spent most of his time in Africa: first in Somalia, and then among the Dogon of Mali.

In the 90's he returned to PARC, where his research focused on the processes of the elaboration, communication, and the learning of knowledge, in relation to the use of new computer-based interactive technologies. In this capacity, he planned and directed the creation of various hypermedia and of virtual reality systems.

He is the director of the La Basilica Ulpia project an enormous project that aims to reconstruct the entire area of the Fori Imperiali of Rome in Virtual Reality and which involves archaeologists and technicians of the Soprintendenza ai Beni Artistici of the Municipality of Rome, research workers from the Cognitive Processes and New Technologies section of the Psychology Institute of the CNR, and the graphics and programming technicians of Infobyte, Rome.
