Biography
Lewis E. (Lew) Platt is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of
Hewlett-Packard Company. HP is an international manufacturer of measurement and
computation products and systems used in industry, business, engineering, science,
medicine and education. The company headquarters arein Palo Alto, Calif. Platt joined HP
in 1966 and became general manager of the Waltham (Mass.) Division in 1974.
He was general manager of HP's Analytical Group from 1980-1984 and was elected a vice
president in 1983. From 1984 to 1988 he managed various parts of HP's computer business.
In 1987, Platt was elected Executive Vice-President. In 1988, he was named to oversee the
Computer Products Sector and in 1990, he became head of the Computer Systems Organization.
In 1992, he was elected President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of
directors. He succeeded David Packard as chairman 1993. |

Lewis Platt was born April 11, 1941, in Johnson City, N.Y. He holds a bachelor's
degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.,and a master's
degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business, University of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In 1995, Platt was appointed to the Advisory Committee on
Trade Policy Negotiations (ACTPN) by President Bill Clinton and is serving as chairman of
the World Trade Organization Task Force. Platt is a director of Molex Inc. and Pacific
Telesis. |
