Biography
Dr. Donald A. Norman, vice-president of Apple Research Laboratories, and an Apple
Fellow since 1993, is responsible for managing advanced technolgy and research for Apple.
Norman has had a long and distinguished academic career. He has been at the University
California, San Diego (UCSD) since 1966 when he served as chair of the Department of
Psychology. In addition, he was one of the founders and the first chair of the Department
of Cognitive Science. He retains the title of Professor Emeritus at UCSD. He is a member
and fellow of numerous scientific societies, including the American Academy of Arts &
Science. Norman earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master's degree in electrical engineering and
a doctorate in psychology both from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1995, he received
an honorary degree from the University of Padua, Italy. |

Norman is the author of 12 books, with translations into 12 languages. His most recent
books are "The Design of Everyday Things," "Turn Signals Are the Facial
Expressions of Automobiles," and Things That Make Us Smart." The three also are
published by Voyager in a CD-ROM titled, "Defending Human Attributes in the Age of
the Machine" which combines the collected works with video talks, demonstrations,
collected papers, and examination questions. |
