Biography
Jack Nilles is known internationally as "the father of telecommuting/
teleworking". He graduated in physics and was a missile expert, directing a project
on space vehicles and communication systems for NASA. He was consultant to Presidents
Kennedy and Johnson on the Science Advisory Council and other Federal departments. He
invented the terms telecommuting/ teleworking in 1973 when director of interdsciplinary
research at the University of Southern California. Since then, he has designed, developed
and/or evaluated teleworking projects for a variety of Fortune 100 companies and
government agencies in the U.S., Europe, and South America. In 1980 he founded the
business consultency, JALA International, Inc. He is a former President of the
Telecommuting Advisory Council and is the U.S. Coordinator for the European Community
Telework/Telematics Forum. In 1993, he received the Environmental Pride Award for his
contributions towards improving the air quality of Los Angeles, and in 1994 he received a
national award for environmental sustainability from RENEW AMERICA.
Lela Nilles is the wife a colleague of Jack Nilles, and works with him on teleworking
and telecommuting. |
