Biography
Born in 1925 at Saint-Paul (Alpes-Maritimes), Laffitte graduated in mining engineering
from the Polytechnique. He was nominated director of the Bureau de récherches
géologiques, géophisiques et minières in 1953. Since 1973 he has been director and then
president of the training board of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines in Paris.
He is president of the Franco-German Association for Science and Technology (AFAST) and
has represented Alpes-Maritimes in the French senate since 1985. Laffitte is the founder
and president of the Sophia-Antipolis science park, the largest scientific park in Europe,
created in 1969 on the French Riviera. The Foundation, a centre of cultural and scientific
activities and an international reference point, organises symposiums on general themes
related to multimedia technology. |
