Biography
Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering
at the University of California in San Diego, Ramesh Jain was previously Professor of
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University Michigan at Ann Harbor,
where he founded and directed the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
His research is concerned with multimedia information systems, interactive video, image
databases, machine vision and intelligent systems. He is the founding President of Virage,
a company based in San Matteo, California for the development of visual information
retrieval systems. He also founded and directed Imageware Inc., an Ann Harbor based
company dedicated to the development of software interfaces for emerging sensor
technologies. |

| He is a Fellow of IEEE, AAAI, and the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation
Engineers, and several other professional societies. Currently, he is the Editor-in-Chief
of IEEE Multimedia, and is on the editorial boards of Machine Vision and Applications,
Pattern Recognition, and Image and Vision Computing. |
