Biography

Lawrence J. Ellison is one of the leading figures in the database software community, and as co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Oracle Corp., he today presides over a $3 billion company. Oracle is pushing into new arenas,testing technologies for delivering video on demand and interactive services to corporate and home computer users over integrated services digitalnetwork phone lines.

Born in Chicago in 1944, he studied at the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago. Vice president of systems development at Omex Corp. he also held positions at Ampex Corp. and Amdahl Corp. Has been CEO of Oracle since he co-founded the company in 1977. He was voted entrepreneur of the Year in 1990 from the Harvard School of Business.

He was awarded the 1994 Smithsonian Information Technology Leadership Award for Global Integration and an honorary degree from Northern Jiao Tong University in China. Ellison is a director of Next Corp., co-chairman of California's Council on Information Technology, and a member of President Bill Clinton's Export Council. back to the top
