BiographyDr. Joel Birnbaum is Hewlett-Packard's Senior Vice President of Research and Development and Director of HP Laboratories. As a member of the corporate Management Staff, he is responsible for the coordination of world-wide activities in R&D, and serves as the company's chief technical officer. |

| Dr. Birnbaum holds a BS inengineering physics from Cornell University, and MS and PhD degrees in nuclear physics from Yale University. Dr. Birnbaum has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and is a member of both the IEEE and the ACM. |  |
