i like a lot the idea of Upspin https://upspin.io/doc/overview.md very simple and unix-oriented, and close to the idea of storage as infrastructure (read the final part of this 2012 interview to Rob Pike https://usesthis.com/interviews/rob.pike/ ).
but the use of a single central key server makes me nervous.
